Left-to-Right Addition
Add the hundreds, then the tens, then the ones. Going left to right means you always know roughly where you are, and there is nothing carried to remember.
When it works
Adding anything with more than one digit in it.
Worked through
387 + 245 = 632
- 387 + 200 = 587Split 245 by place value and add the biggest part first.
- 587 + 40 = 627Then add 40.
- 627 + 5 = 632Then add 5.
